The DOWN Side of American Democracy

Well we have less than a week to go before the US federal election. In one corner we have Donald Trump AKA “The Donald” and in the other corner Hillary Clinton AKA “Crooked Hilary”.

So here we have the most powerful country in the world with one of the two of the least trusted politicians in the history of US elections about to take office. As HBO’s John Oliver might say “Holy F****” if that doesn’t scare the shit out of you I don’t know what will.

When asked whether they thought Hillary was honest and trustworthy 56 % say she isn’t. The Donald beat Clinton in the trustworthiness category by 4%, but the numbers seem to fluctuate day by day based on who can dig up the most dirt on the other. We have Hillary who is in a pact with the devil and Trump labeled a sexual predator. Neither one not exactly what you would say is a ringing endorsement for the next leader of the most powerful country in the world…. is it?

It kinda makes you wonder why Trump and Clinton ended up as the leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties ?  What does it say about the delegates and the voting public?

An idiot ….  (whoops politically incorrect) I mean intellectually challenged and Einstein show up to vote in a national election. The intellectuall challenged votes for George Bush and Einstein votes for Abraham Lincoln (assume Lincoln is alive for this exercise).

What is the net result? …..ZERO.

The two votes cancel one another, the problem is that there’s infinitely more intellectually challenged or ill informed people in the US than there are Einsteins and that my friends is the serious downside of our democratic system. This in a country where 25 percent of the population believes that the sun revolves around the earth. They walk, they breath and …..they vote.

In the absence of a well informed, well educated electorate we run the risk of electing leaders based on either who does the most advertising, the most resources and/or can sling the most shit at the other party during an election campaign.  We run the risk of choosing a leader based on a popularity contest or in the case of Crooked Hillary and Pervert Donald the lessor of two evils.

On November 8th US voters with choose the next President of the United States, they will choose either “Crooked Hillary” or “Donald the Pervert” ……how do you feel now?

It makes you wish there were far more well informed, educated American voters, doesn’t it?
