SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK – August 30 – Come experience the joy of singing a cappella harmony – and let your spirit soar! Sea Belles, Saint John-based women’s a cappella chorus, seeks women vocalists who love to sing, perform and have fun. Weekly rehearsals begin Tuesday evenings, September 20, 2016 from 7:00 – 9:30 pm. at Portland United Church Hall, 50 Newport Crescent, Saint John, N.B.
“Singing is not only fun, but it’s aerobic…and the deep breathing helps improve your overall health and well being,” says Vangie Mofford, vice-president and Saint John resident. “What more could you ask?”
Sea Belles’ members come from all walks of life, range in age from 14 to over 60, and hail from Sussex to Brown’s Flats. Women of all ages and voice ranges are welcome.
“You don’t have to have a terrific voice or know how to read music,” says Janet Kidd, Darlings Island resident and Sea Belles’ musical director. “In fact, we’ll help you find your voice!” Kidd, an accomplished professional singer, choir and chorus director for more than 40 years and Sea Belles’ Director for 23 years, also directs Men of Fundy Barbershop chorus and Dalhousie Medical School Choir “Heartbeat!”
“Something pretty amazing happens when you sing in close, four-part harmony,” adds Mandie Nickerson, Quispamsis resident, and mother of nineteen year old Sarah, a university student and two year chorus member. “Sea Belles is a great opportunity to share our love of music, grow as performers and have fun together. I am so glad this group exists!”
A local chapter of Harmony, Inc., international, nonprofit and educational organization for women singers, Sea Belles celebrates 47 years of regular performance throughout the community, offering its talent for entertainment at civic events and charitable functions.
