40 ELF Reading Mentors Needed

Friends and supporters of increased literacy in Saint John:

I am reaching out today for your help. In Saint John, a minimum of 40 ELF Reading Mentors are still needed to work with grade two students across 8 schools in your city this school year. We have thus set a training date for Tuesday, March 15 from 1-4 PM at the Saint John Free Public Library. Please help us ensure this training date is full and students needs are met!

Schools identified and prioritized for this recruitment drive include:

Champlain Heights School

Centennial School

Forest Hills School

Loch Lomond School

Morna Heights School

St. Patrick’s School

Bayview School

St. John the Baptist/King Edward School

Volunteering with our organization requires that volunteers attend training, complete policy 701 training (covered at the training session) and obtain and submit a clean Criminal Record Check to the school before working with a child. Then, the reading commitment consists of working one-on-one with a grade two student twice a week, after school, for ten weeks.

Please forward this email to anyone you think may be interested in this opportunity. I have attached a copy of our volunteer recruitment poster, one as a PDF and the other as a JPEG, for you to use as you wish, as well. Please visit www.elfnb.com or call me directly at the number below for more information.

Many thanks in advance for your support and collaboration.
